Description
Elsdon's Farmhouse is a 17th-century farmhouse located on Elsdons Lane in Wootton Fitzpaine. The building features rubble walls with some blue lias quoins and a thatched roof with gable ends. There are two brick stacks, one at each gable. The farmhouse has a rear wing, which may be original, creating an L-shaped plan.
On the south elevation, the farmhouse is 1½ storeys high and has three windows, which are wooden casements with three and four lights, all featuring the same lintels and cills. The front door is centrally located and leads into a cross-passage, made of planks. A 20th-century porch with a concrete tile roof has been added. Above the right-hand ground floor window, there is a tablet that reads, "King Charles II stayed here September 22 1651. Erected March 31 1902."
Inside, the farmhouse has slightly chamfered ceiling beams with run-out stops and an open fireplace with a wide segmental wooden lintel. There is also a half-spiral staircase located within the thickness of the rear wall.
