Description

The Swiss Cottage is a late 18th-century cottage built in a Picturesque style. It is constructed of lias stone with a thatched roof, hipped at both ends. The front features two symmetrical gables with their pitched roofs returning to the main roofline. Original brick stacks, set in groups of three, are positioned at the eaves on both the left and right sides, each topped with moulded caps. The cottage has one-and-a-half storeys, with three windows on the ground floor featuring sashes and glazing bars. The first floor has two-light casements in the gables, and there is a small square window above the front door. The central front door has flush panels with four glazed lights above a reeded door surround. A porch with plank sides and trelliswork sits at the front, topped with a low-pitched slate roof that is boarded to the front. Originally, the interior consisted of a double-depth plan with fireplaces situated in the corners, set diagonally.
