Description

The stable block, located 10 metres west of Wolfeton House, dates from the late 17th century and features 19th-century additions of windows and doors. It stands on the south side of the yard and incorporates parts of an earlier boundary wall in its rear structure. The building has dressed stone walls with ashlar quoins and a clay pantile roof, which is finished with stone gable coping and level kneelers.

It is a single storey with lofts above, presenting six openings to the stable yard. These include a two-light window and a round-headed archway with rusticated jambs and moulded imposts, which has been altered to accommodate a now-missing door. Above this archway is a projecting key and label. There is also a 17th-century three-light window with a wide segmental head, featuring fixed windows with iron glazing bars and a central pivoting window with wooden glazing bars. A 19th-century doorway with a segmental head leads to a plank door, along with another two-light window.

Inside, there is a tack room accessed through a round-arch entrance on the left, while to the right are three stables with sliding wooden doors that are grilled in the upper half. The flooring consists of brick and cobblestones.
