Description

Meadow Cottage and Priory Cottage are two attached cottages that were originally one farmhouse. They date from the late 16th century, with alterations made in the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries affecting the windows and walls. The exterior features knapped flint and banded stone walls, with brickwork that raises the eaves. The cottages have a thatched roof with gable ends. There are 20th-century brick stacks located at the east end gable, at the ridge center, and at the right party wall with West Hill Cottage. Priory Cottage is 1½ storeys high and has three windows, while Meadow Cottage is two storeys with two windows.

For Priory Cottage, the fenestration includes a three-light 19th-century wood casement window, a door, and a four-light stone mullion window with iron casements and fixed lead lights, topped with a label. The upper floor has three eyebrow dormers and two 2-light 20th-century metal casements, along with one four-light wood casement. Meadow Cottage features a four-light stone mullion window with iron casements and lead lights above its door, which has a label over it. The first floor has a mix of three-light and four-light 20th-century wood casements. The front doors include a plank door with strap hinges and a glass light for Priory Cottage, while Meadow Cottage has a left-side plank door with a wood lintel above.

Inside, the cottages have been significantly altered. Meadow Cottage has a large hall with a small early 19th-century dog-leg staircase featuring a Roman Doric newel. The right-hand room, which was originally larger before being subdivided by the hall, has a fireplace with brick jambs and a segmental brick head, along with mid chamfered ceiling beams.
