Description

No. 1 East Street is an attached house dating from the mid-18th century, with later alterations to its front that suggest an earlier structure. The exterior features walls made of knapped flint and chalk blocks arranged in bands. It has a thatched roof with stone gable copings and kneelers. There are brick stacks at the gable ends, which have moulded and dogtooth cornices from the 19th century. The house is two storeys high and has three sash windows with glazing bars, brick dressings, and segmental brick heads, featuring alternating burnt headers. The central front door is flush panelled and has similar reveals, dating from the early 19th century. At the rear, there is a range made of rubble stone with a gabled thatch roof.
