Description
29 and 31 High Street are mid-19th century buildings that stand two stories tall with an attic, featuring four bays. The front is made of stone ashlar and has a gabled parapet with coping. The first and third bays from the right have gabled dormers set behind a flat parapet, while the second and fourth bays have gables with attic windows. The windows are a mix of two-light and three-light casements, adorned with stone dressings and drip moulds above, which are now painted. At the eastern end, there is a large, attractive semi-circular arched doorway with a drip mould above, leading to handsome wooden boarded doors. The ground floor has 19th-century shop fronts flanked by pilasters, with a plain fascia (the fascia above the centre window has been altered) and a large moulded cornice above. This building was once an inn. It is part of a group that includes the Town Hall, the Church of St. Peter, The Mitre Inn, and Nos 25 to 31 (odd).
