Description
This is a mid-19th century building of three storeys and an attic, situated on the south side of High Street. It consists of six bays, with windows set in differing planes. The building has a slate gabled roof with six segmental-roofed dormers. A toothed stone cornice runs at the eaves and to the first floor. The front is of red brick, with stone quoins that articulate each bay, and stone dressings to the windows and doorways. The windows are segmental-headed with keystones, and lack glazing bars. Two round-headed stone doorways are present; the left-hand one (at No. 27A) has been converted into a shop window. There are two large 19th-century shop fronts with small, canopied hoods supported by shaped brackets; the fascias have been altered in No. 27. Each window is flanked by panelled pilasters. The building forms a group with the Town Hall, Church of St Peter, The Mitre Inn, and numbers 25 to 31 (odd).
