Description
This building, at 26 and 26A High Street, has a 19th-century front but incorporates an earlier core. It is a three-storey building with a four-window front, typical of its time. It features rusticated quoins, a central pilaster, and window surrounds. A decorative band runs across the first floor at the level of the voussoir, and there are plain sill bands to the second-floor windows. The ground floor has modern plate glass shop fronts with marble stall-risers. A pair of 19th-century wooden boarded doors are set within the reveal at the right-hand end. Nos. 12 to 26 (even) and No 26A form a group with “The Butt of Sherry” Wine Bar and the former premises of The Midland Bank, The Commons.
