Description
This is an early 19th-century building on the north side of High Street, comprising three sections: numbers 16, 18 and 18A. It is a red brick block originally with four windows at number 16, and one bay each at numbers 18 and 18A. The frontage curves slightly at numbers 18 and 18A. The building has a moulded eaves cornice. The sash windows retain their original glazing bars and are set within rubbed brick arches. A wide, modern plate glass shop front has been inserted at number 16, while numbers 18 and 18A have smaller, mid to late 19th-century shop fronts with pilasters, a fascia and a moulded cornice. The recessed bay at the right-hand end of number 16 has a three-light sash window on each floor. Numbers 12 to 26 (even) and number 26A form a group with "The Butt of Sherry" Wine Bar and the former Midland Bank premises.
