Description

King Alfred's Kitchen, located at 17 and 19 High Street, dates back to 1615 and is a Grade II listed building. The front is plastered, and the south end features a very low room with oak beams, indicating a 17th-century origin. The building has two storeys, with one window above and four windows below, which includes a canted bay and an 18th-century sash window to the left of it. The north end has a third storey, but most of its external features are quite modern. King Alfred's Kitchen is part of a group that includes Nos 5 to 13 (odd) and The Fruit Shop.
