Description
14 High Street is a Grade II listed building originally constructed in the early to mid 18th century, which was re-fronted in a replica style in 1970. It was the only front in Shaftesbury that reflected the quality of early to mid 18th-century architecture found in nearby Blandford. The building stands three stories tall and features three windows. The front is made of red brick, with the upper section adorned with brick pilasters that have carved stone caps, supporting a Doric entablature made of stone, complete with triglyphs and guttae. There is a small open pediment at the center, and the sash windows have triple keystones with altered glazing bars. The central window beneath the pediment is round-headed, and brick voussoirs are present. The ground floor has a modern plate glass shop front, flanked by fluted pilasters and topped with a plain fascia and modillion cornice. The building is part of a group that includes Nos 12 to 26 (even) and No 26A, along with "The Butt of Sherry" Wine Bar and the premises occupied by The Midland Bank, The Commons.
