Description

The Butt of Sherry Wine Bar and the adjacent property, formerly occupied by the Midland Bank, date from the early to mid-19th century. Originally numbered 8 and 10 High Street, the building has five storeys and presents brick fronts with rendered quoins, with the quoins rubbed off on the left-hand side, which was formerly part of the Midland Bank. The exterior of the "Butt of Sherry" section is now painted brick. The building comprises two bays for the wine bar and five bays for the former bank. Sash windows with intact glazing bars are present throughout. The "Butt of Sherry" section features doorways and windows with elliptical heads, including a fanlight above the doorway. The ground floor of the former Midland Bank has been altered with a modern classical-style bank frontage. The building is part of a group that includes numbers 12 to 26 (inclusive) and 26A High Street.
