Description
The Mitre Inn is a building dating from 1615, located on the south side of High Street. It has an 18th-century core and features a modern front made of stone rubble in a vernacular style. The inn is two storeys tall and has three windows. There is a stringcourse above the ground floor and a parapet with rolled coping. The modern casement windows are complemented by transomed and mullioned windows on the ground floor, which have dripstones above them. At the right end, there is a 4-centred doorway, while the central doorway is wider and square-headed, featuring a flat stone hood supported by shaped brackets, with a carved crest of a mitre above it. At the back, there is a 19th-century wing that is three storeys high and has four windows facing south-west. This wing has a hipped slate roof with red tile ridges and some sash windows with intact glazing bars. The Mitre Inn, along with the Town Hall, Church of St Peter, and Nos 25 to 31 (odd), forms a group.
