Description

There are five table tombs located about 10 metres north and east of Chideock Church. The first tomb is situated immediately east of the chancel and is dedicated to Thomas Daniell, Steward of Chideock Manor, dating from 1668. It is made of stone and features round-arch panels and modillions, with a brass plate added in 1885 by Sir F Weld. The second tomb is for Henry Roper, who died in 1780, and has fluted pilaster corners and a stone plinth. The third tomb commemorates Giles Roper, who died in 1814, and includes ogee-headed Indian-style pilaster corners and a moulded top. The fourth and fifth tombs are both from the early 19th century, are overgrown, and have illegible lettering.
