Description

This is a group of six table tombs located 5 to 10 metres south of the church tower in Netherbury, dating from the 18th and early 19th centuries. Each tomb is made of stone and features moulded cornices, except where noted.

  1. The first tomb is dedicated to Richard Gollop and another Gollop, who both died on 3rd November 1732, and has an ogee base.
  2. The second tomb commemorates Elizabeth and Daniel Case, who died in 1769 and 1779, respectively, and features fielded-panel pilaster panels arranged in tiers.
  3. The third tomb is in memory of "Thomas Gollop de Strode Armr et Martha Uxor Eius," dating to around 1700, though the exact date is illegible.
  4. The fourth tomb is for John Purchase of Swier, who died in 1781 at the age of 65, and his wife Edith, who died in 1790 at the age of 82. It has fielded-panel pilaster corners arranged in tiers and a hipped stone top.
  5. The fifth tomb marks the resting place of John Fathers, Gent., who died on 2nd July 1810 at the age of 53, and his beloved wife Mary, who died on 2nd September 1837 at the age of 68. It features fielded-panel pilaster corners.
  6. The sixth tomb is dedicated to William Coles, who died in 1852 at the age of 56, and also mentions his wife Susann. It has a fielded panel in the centre and fluted pilaster corners, topped with a hipped stone canopy.
