Description
The Monmouth Hotel, located at 12 Church Street, is a building from the 16th century that was refashioned in the 18th century. It is two storeys high and has cellars, topped with a modern pantile roof. The exterior features stone rubble with a plastered front and three widely spaced window bays on the first floor, which contain sash windows. The doorway is situated between the second and third windows from the left and has a moulded architrave with a triangular pediment supported by brackets, leading to a six-panelled door with deep reveals. Inside, there are moulded ceiling beams and a carved stone panel above the fireplace in the bar. The Monmouth Hotel is part of a group that includes No 1, the Tudor House Hotel, and Nos 6 to 12 on Church Street, with the north front of the Guildhall marking the southern end of this group.
