Description
Malabar, located at No. 8 on Church Street, is a building dating from the 16th century that was refashioned in the 18th century. It stands two storeys high on cellars and features a stucco front. The building has a moulded eaves cornice adorned with small paired modillions and a slate gabled roof. There are five window bays with sash windows, and the glazing bars remain intact on the first floor. The structure includes a plinth and a pilastered doorway topped with an entablature, leading to a six-panelled door. Inside, the cellar boasts moulded ceiling beams.
Malabar is part of a group that includes No. 1, the Tudor House Hotel, and Nos. 6 to 12 on Church Street. The north front of the Guildhall serves as a visual stop at the southern end of this group.
