Description

This building, originally dating from the 16th century, was significantly remodelled in the early 19th century. It is now comprised of numbers 6 and 7, and was formerly known as Fermaine and Handel House. It stands continuously with the Tudor House Hotel along Church Street. The building is three storeys high and has three window bays, with two window bays belonging to number 7. It has a slate gabled roof and a moulded eaves cornice that is dentiled and fluted. The upper floors are faced with painted brick, while the ground floor is stuccoed stone. The second floor features sash windows with four panes in each reveal. The first floor has a three-light sash window at either end, with a central sash window also containing four panes. There are coupled doorways, with a six-panelled door to number 6 and a modern door leading to number 7, accompanied by a modern plate-glass restaurant window to the right. A modern window is also present on the ground floor of number 6. Inside number 7, the ground floor retains moulded ceiling beams. The building forms a group with numbers 1 (Tudor House Hotel), 6 to 12 (inclusive), and the north front of the Guildhall.
