Description
The greenhouse located 60 metres north-west of Sherborne Castle is a detached structure designed in 1779, as recorded in the Digby Estate Office. The south front features an ashlar stone wall, while the remainder is constructed from brick faced with stucco and has ashlar quoins. It has a hipped slate roof and is a single storey. The south front is symmetrically arranged in five bays, with five tall round-headed windows grouped in a one-three-one pattern. These windows are sashes with glazing bars, with the upper section radiating. The end bays project slightly and are framed by Roman Doric pilasters, which are adorned with Neo-classical motifs in the entablature and a pediment above. Similar decorative elements, including linked ox-skulls, garlands, and medallions, are present in the centre bays. There is a two-leaf door on the east end wall. The interior is plain, featuring only a moulded cornice.
