Description
Nos. 21 and 22 Cockles are a pair of cottages that were originally one house, dating from the 17th century. They are attached to No. 20 and feature rubble stone walls with some brick repairs, topped by a thatched roof with a parapet on the south gable and brick end stacks. The cottages are two storeys high.
No. 21 has a ledged door set in a gabled timber porch. On the ground floor, there is one horizontally sliding sash window with glazing bars. The first floor features two horizontally sliding sash windows with lead lights, one of which has chamfered mullions, likely original. The main ground floor room includes a large fireplace, which has been partly built up, and a stop-chamfered sliding beam.
No. 22 also has a ledged door, but this one is in a brick porch with a gabled roof. The ground floor has one double-hung sash window with glazing bars, while the first floor has one horizontally sliding sash window with lead lights. There is a single-storey addition on the south side, constructed with brick and stone walls and a tiled roof, which includes one casement window that has replaced a door.
