Description

This is a three-storey, three-window house dating from the 18th century, with a stucco facade. It features a splayed bay window on the first floor and a 19th-century shopfront below. A moulded cornice runs along the top, topped by a parapet. The windows are sash windows. The house has a particularly noteworthy late 18th-century doorcase, featuring a round-headed opening, panelled reveals, and gothic glazing bars to the fanlight. The doorcase’s pediment and entablature, enriched with paterae, are supported by moulded console brackets. The building is part of a group of properties and structures including the Shire Hall, Holy Trinity Church, the Museum, St. Peter's Church, and a monument to William Barnes in the churchyard, all located immediately south of the West Tower.
