Description

This is an early 19th-century building, originally three storeys and three windows wide, with a stucco front that is set back slightly. The building was likely intended as a pair, as suggested by the two doorways of equal prominence. It has since been converted into flats. The ground floor is rusticated, featuring a central three-light sash window with a segmental head. Flanking this are two doorways with round-headed, rusticated reveals, each containing a fanlight, side-lights, a moulded transom, and a six-panelled door. The first floor contains three tall sash windows, the central one accentuated by an architrave and entablature supported by console brackets. A continuous balcony, supported by brackets, runs along this floor and features a good iron balustrade. A string course runs along the level of the second-floor cills, topped by a moulded cornice and parapet. There are railings to the area and approach steps, finished with an urn finial. The railings are of group value with numbers 48 to 65A (consecutive), including the Shire Hall, Holy Trinity Church, the Museum, St. Peter's Church, and the monument to William Barnes in the churchyard to the south of the West Tower.
