Description
The Vicarage, built in 1878, is situated on Abbey Close and was constructed on the same site as a medieval vicarage that was demolished that year. It is said to incorporate some remains from the original medieval structure. The building has two storeys and an attic, featuring three window bays. It has a plain tile roof and an ashlar front with stone-mullioned windows. The left bay includes a three-light transomed window on the first floor, topped with a gable, and a larger three-light window on the ground floor. There is a large gable over the centre and right bays, with an attic window that has a dripmould. The centre bay features two-light perpendicular style windows on the first floor, and a porch on the ground floor with a four-centred headed doorway. The door consists of six panels, with three longitudinal glazed panels in the upper part. The right bay has a four-light transomed window with a dripstone above it, and a larger window of the same style below on the ground floor. All the listed buildings in Abbey Close form a group with the east end of No 1 Finger Lane.
