Description

Dormers is a building located on East Borough, dating from the 18th century for the main front range, with a parallel rear range and rear wing from the 17th century. The main facade features rendered walls and a tiled roof with a moulded eaves cornice, which is partly obscured by a blocked-out fascia. The building is two storeys high with attics and has a plat band at the first floor level. There is a central doorway with a classical surround and a portico supported by free-standing Tuscan columns, topped with a pediment-shaped hood and a classical entablature, along with an ornamental fanlight. The ground floor has four double-hung sash windows, though the glazing bars are missing, and there are five similar windows on the first floor. The attic contains three dormers with hipped roofs and metal casements featuring lead lights. There is a later extension to the south.

Inside, the ground floor of the main range includes a modern fireplace and a plaster ceiling designed in a 17th-century style, along with oak panelling of a similar type. Behind this range is an earlier section, likely from the 17th century, which features exposed chamfered oak beams supporting the first floor. Further back is a modern flat-roofed extension. At the southern end, there is a projecting rear wing constructed of timber framing, also likely from the 17th century, with a tiled roof and two storeys, although all windows in this section have been renewed.
