Description

EAST BOROUGH 1. 5193 (east side) No 6 (Dormers) SU 0100 SW 2/24 14.6.52 II GV 2. Main front range C18; parallel rear range and rear wing C17. Main facade has rendered walls and tiled roof with moulded eaves cornice, partly hidden by blocked-out fascia. Two storeys and attics. Plat band at first floor level. Central doorway with classical surround and portico on free-standing Tuscan columns. Pedimental shaped hood, with classical entablature, ornamental fanlight. Four double-hung sash windows to ground floor, - glazing bars missing. Five similar windows to first floor. Three dormers to attic with hipped roofs, and metal casements with lead lights. Later extension to south. Internally the ground floor of this range has a modern fireplace and plaster ceiling in C17 style; oak panelling of similar type. Behind this range is an earlier range, probably C17, with exposed chamfered oak beams carrying the first floor. Behind this again is a modern flat-roofed extension. At the south end is a projecting rear wing of timber-framed construction, probably C17, with tiled roof, of 2 storeys. All windows in this section renewed. RCHM Monument 46.
