Garden House And Attached Retaining Wall 30 Metres East Of Mapperton House

The Garden House, built around 1900, incorporates earlier materials and is located 30 metres east of Mapperton House. It features rubble-stone walls topped with a slate and stone slab roof, and has stone gable-copings. The building is two storeys tall and has entrances at both lower and upper levels due to the terraced landscape. The lower entrance on the south side is round-arched, with projecting imposts and a keystone. The upper entrance on the north side leads into a small chamber. The upper level has two 2-light ovolo-moulded stone mullions with leaded lights, and 17th-century separate labels above them. Attached to the Garden House is a retaining wall that runs east-west, approximately 20 feet high, made of random rubble with a chamfered coping, dating to the 19th century.
