Description
The gateway and walling of the Congregational burial ground opposite the Old Forge dates from the mid-18th century. It forms the four sides of the burial ground, featuring ashlar stone facing towards the lane and rubble-stone walls. The coping stones are ramped towards the ends and stepped up to the central gateway. On the left side of the gateway, a volute remains intact. The gateway itself is adorned with coupled Roman Doric pilasters, an entablature, and a pediment. The entrance has square jambs, moulded imposts, and a round head with a dropped key. A plank door, which is studded and fitted with strap-hinges, dates from the 18th century.
