House And Stable At Encombe Dairy, 150 Metres South South East Of Dairy Cottage

The building known as the House and Stable at Encombe Dairy, located 150 meters south-south-east of Dairy Cottage, consists of a farmhouse likely dating from the late 18th century and stables from the 19th century. The farmhouse features rubble stone walls with brick dressings and a stone slate roof, complemented by brick stacks on the ridge. It stands two storeys high with an attic. The entrance includes a panelled door with an upper glazed panel bordered by panes, sheltered by a flat hood supported by timber brackets.

On the ground floor, there are four windows with horizontal glazing set under brick arches. The first floor mirrors this with four similar windows and includes a blank recess between the two inner windows. The attic features three gabled dormers, each with horizontal sliding sashes and lead lights. A two-storey rear wing has part of its roof replaced with corrugated asbestos, and there is also a rear lean-to extension made of both stone and brick, topped with a catslide roof.

Inside, some ceiling beams are adorned with plaster mouldings. At the right end of the house, a stone wall with one opening and one blocked opening connects to the stable, which has coursed rubble stone walls and a stone slate roof with coped gables. The stable is a single-storey structure with a ledged door and casement windows featuring cast iron lattice glazing. The interior of the stable has not been inspected.
