Description
Rhandregynwen Farmhouse is a two-storey building with attics, although the dormers have been removed. It is constructed of rendered brick and features a dentil course at the eaves. The farmhouse has a single pile layout with 18th century and 19th century brick lean-tos at the rear, along with a 19th century rubble wing, all topped with slate roofs. The gable ends are raised and have stone coping, with two brick stacks at the ends and a brick ridge stack located to the right of the center.
The front facade has four windows, all of which are tripartite sashes set under segmental arches, except for a smaller single sash located above the right-hand door. There is a mid-19th century metal-framed casement window in the rear lean-to, while the other windows are of various later dates. The farmhouse features two front doors: to the left is a plank door with a rendered porth under a hipped slate roof, and to the right is a panelled door with an overlight, accompanied by an open timber porch also under a hipped slate roof.
Inside, the ground floor has a large central room with two axial beams that are chamfered with scroll stops, and a large inglenook fireplace. Other rooms contain boxed beams. The 18th century stairs rise at the rear of the central stack and feature a closed string, column-on-vase balusters, a plain turned newel, and a moulded newel cap. The dairy and scullery in the rear lean-tos retain original features, with the dairy showcasing a large rough beam, ceiling hooks and rods, huge slate slabs on brick piers, and shuttered windows.
Adjacent to the farmhouse is a very large courtyard of brick and slate farm buildings to the east. These buildings are predominantly from the mid-19th century but include portions of earlier brick structures. Notable features include wide arches leading to open-fronted cattle shelters, as well as upper loading doors on the south and west ranges, the latter of which is raised one storey above segmented-arched cartsheds that have been converted into garages.
