Description

Schoolhouse Farmhouse, along with its attached farm buildings to the south-west, is a farmhouse dating from the 17th century, with alterations from the 18th century. The structure features rubble walls with large stone quoins and one stone gable coping, topped by an asbestos slate roof. It has two brick stacks located at the right gable and just to the right of the front door. The building is two storeys high and has five windows, which are stone-mullioned with iron frames, along with some wooden frames. The front entrance includes a plank door framed by a well-crafted stone classical architrave with eared details, a plain ovolo frieze, and a pediment from the 18th century. Above the door is an oval window with a stone ovolo-moulded frame and the original pattern of glazing bars.

Inside, the farmhouse features deep-chamfered beams and a fluted doorcase from the 18th century. There is a Tudor-arched stone fireplace with a straight chamfer. The attached buildings include stables with a loft above, and a barn that is continuous with the stables, which has a tie-beam and collars. There is also a return wing that encloses a yard, which contains a cart-shed with a corrugated-iron roof that has half-hips. This entire complex forms an important group of farm buildings.
