Description

Branksea Villa is a detached house built in the early 19th century. It has a rendered exterior and a slate roof. The villa is symmetrical, featuring two stories and three windows. Above the four-pane sash windows in flush boxes, there is a central flat-roofed dormer that also has four-pane sashes; these may have originally contained 16-pane sashes. The entrance features a narrow panelled door with a transom and a fanlight. There are brick stacks on each gable end. On the left side, there is a glazed lean-to conservatory beneath an asbestos-slate-hung gable, which includes a four-pane sash window. The right gable is decorated with stone slate-hanging and has a later 19th-century brick extension. A brick dentil course that was noted in the Royal Commission on the Historical Monuments of England report is no longer present. The interior has not been inspected. When it was first constructed, the villa likely had a generous plot of land surrounding it, but it is now bordered by later developments along Horsford Street and at the rear.
