Description
The gate-piers and attached walling adjacent to Sherborne Lodge date from the mid-19th century. They consist of three entrance-piers made of ashlar stone, featuring inset linenfold panels and the monogram CWD. Each pier has a moulded pedestal, cornice, and capstone, adorned with a Portland griffin that holds the coat-of-arms of Digby. There is a low sleeper wall that curves to the north, topped with ornamental iron railings. To the right of the pedestrian entrance, the attached walling is made of rock-faced masonry with ashlar capstones. At the south end of this wall, there are two additional ashlar gate-piers that also have moulded cornices and hipped capping. The gate-piers are currently being reset to their previous positions as of July 1985.
