Description
The Vines is a 2-storey cottage dating from 1625, located on the south-east side of Long Street at a corner where the road divides. The front, which faces Long Street, is from the 18th century and features two window bays and a doorway. The cottage has a hipped roof covered with plaintiles and a roughcast front. It has sash windows set in reveals, with no glazing bars. On the ground floor to the right, there is a splayed 3-light bay, with each light containing a sash window. The entrance features a half-glazed door with a flat hood supported by deep cut brackets. On the left-hand return, there is a sash window without glazing bars, and on the ground floor, there are two more sash windows without glazing bars, along with an outshut to the left. The roof of the outshut forms a pentice with the main roof. The north-west end of the cottage is also roughcast and has a 2-light casement window with small panes above. To the south-west, there is a wall made of stone rubble with a window below. The Vines, along with Kingston Cottage, Kingston House, and an outbuilding to the south-east, form a group.
