ST EWE SW 94 NE 1/16 Lodge with attached walls and piers at the north west entrance to 28.1.88 Heligan House

GV II

Lodge with attached walls and piers. Mid - late C19. Slatestone rubble with stone dressings. Slate roof with lead rolls to ridge and gable ends, with deep eaves. Axial stacks with diagonal set rendered shafts. Plan: 2-room plan, arranged in a T-plan; there is one room to right, with a front entrance porch; one-room plan cross wing to left. Single storey rear service wing. Gothic style. Exterior: 2 storeys; asymmetrical front with the gable end of the cross wing to left, with the porch and the main room to right. All windows are C19; granite quoins. Gabled porch with C20 door with ogee fanlight. The gable end projecting to left has 3-light casement at ground floor and 2-light casement at first floor, both with chamfered wooden mullions annd lattice glazing, in chamfered granite surrounds. The right end has a canted bay at ground floor with hipped roof and casements. The left side of the cross wing has similar 3-light casement at ground floor with chamfered granite surround and brick relieving arch. The rear gable end of the wing has similar 2-light casement at first floor and single 2-centred arched light at ground floor. The rear has a low single storey service wing behind the main range, with small C20 addition at the end. The entrance walls are attached to left; there is a short range of granite ashlar wall with chamfered granite coping, about one metre high and about 3 metres long, to left and right of the gateway. Central pair of square plan ashlar piers with blind panels and pyramidal tops, about 1½ metres high. Interior: Not inspected.
