Description
The Old Mill is a building that includes a mill, a millhouse, and a cottage, possibly dating from the 17th century, with remodels in the 18th century and extensions in the 19th century. It is constructed of granite rubble with some dressed moorstone and has Spanish slate roofs. The chimneys are rendered and located over the gable ends of the house and the cottage range.
The building has an L-shaped plan, with the mill on the right side featuring one wheel (originally two wheels) to the left and a one-room cottage extension from the early 19th century on the far left, which is now part of a single house. There are later lean-tos at the rear on the left side.
The exterior is two storeys high with an overall four-window south front. The millhouse has a nearly symmetrical two-window front with a central doorway that has been converted into a window, and the first-floor windows are grouped closer together. The mill has a doorway with monolith jambs and shows signs of previous alterations, along with a small window to the left of the doorway. The end of the mill is half-hipped, featuring a wide doorway that projects at the front on the far right. The cottage has a regular one-window front with a doorway on the right side.
Inside the mill, there is no mill machinery present, but there is a fireplace in the front left-hand corner with a flue that connects to the large chimney of the millhouse. The roof structure is old.
