Description

Truthwall Mill is a mill with an attached millhouse, dating from 1687, although it may have been resited, with origins likely from the late 18th century or early 19th century. The building features painted rubble walls with granite dressings, incorporating some reused masonry from the 17th century. It has a grouted scantle slate roof over three storeys on the right side, while the left side has an asbestos slate roof. The gable ends are complemented by brick chimneys, one over the left gable end and another over a cross wall. At the rear, there is a cast-iron ogee gutter.

The layout includes a two-storey, two-room former miller's cottage on the far left and a large three-storey rectangular mill with an integral millhouse on the right. A rubble-walled ramp at the right end leads to a first-floor loading doorway, although the machinery has been removed.

The exterior features a symmetrical six-window south front, with the cottage on the left having a two-storey, two-window arrangement and a central doorway. The mill and millhouse on the right have a four-window, three-storey front. The cottage's openings are unaltered, while most openings of the mill and millhouse are original, featuring late 19th-century or later horned sash windows and 20th-century doors. The millhouse has a symmetrical two-window front with a central doorway, while the mill has a doorway at the far left and another doorway cut into a former window opening at the far right, along with a blocked first-floor loading doorway. The interior has not been inspected.
