Description
Higher Boskinning Farmhouse is a farmhouse that was probably remodeled in the 18th century, originally dating from the 17th century. It is built of granite ashlar and features a grouted scantle slate roof that slopes lower at the rear. The building has dressed granite stacks over coped gable ends with moulded granite kneelers. The plan is a double depth layout with two rooms at the front— a parlour on the left and a kitchen on the right— with a cross passage leading to a central stair and rear service rooms within an integral outshut.
The exterior is two storeys high, with a symmetrical three-window east front and a central doorway. The door is from the 20th century, as are the four-pane horned sash windows. Inside, there is an 18th-century dog-leg stair with column-turned balusters leading to the landing balustrade. The left-hand room features a probably 17th-century chamfered fireplace lintel and 18th-century bowtell moulded beams, along with some old window shutters. The floor structure is mostly from the early 20th century, but the roof structure may date back to the 18th century, although it was not inspected.
In front of the farmhouse, there are rubble walls surrounding a rectangular garden, and granite monolithic gate piers mark the entrance.
