Description
This is a farmhouse dating from 1676, which was remodeled in the late 19th century. It is constructed of granite rubble with granite dressings and has a scantle slate roof with chimneys at the gable ends. The building has a two-room plan with a central through passage and an external stair turret located at the rear left of the middle. There is a 19th-century dairy lean-to at the rear middle and right, and it features large fireplaces that are partly blocked.
The farmhouse is two storeys high and has a slightly irregular south front with four windows. The original chamfered doorway has a datestone and the initials S.M. above it, and there is a similar doorway at the rear of the passage. The right-hand windows have two 17th-century two-light chamfered window heads above them, along with a blocked original opening in the right-hand gable. The other openings are either from the 19th century or have been remodeled in that period, featuring late 19th-century six-pane horned sashes.
Inside, there are 19th-century floors and a stair, while 17th-century features may be hidden. This farmhouse is likely the oldest one in Boswarthen.
