Description

Carfury Farmhouse is a late 18th-century farmhouse constructed from granite ashlar. It has a steep slate roof, with granite ashlar chimneys over the gables, and a double-depth plan, originally comprising two rooms at the front – a wider kitchen to the left and a parlour to the right, separated by a cross passage – and two service rooms at the rear. Partitions have since been removed from the right-hand rear rooms. A single-storey lean-to addition was added in the 19th century on the right side, with a corbel that originally supported an external staircase leading to the attic.

The two-storey front (facing roughly east) is nearly symmetrical, with three windows and a doorway and fenestration grouped towards the right. A 20th-century door is in place. The windows are late 19th or 20th-century six-pane horned sashes, and similar windows are found at the rear. Internally, there is an original dog-leg staircase, likely original floors and roof structure, but 20th-century doors.

The front garden is a square area enclosed by rubble walls with dressed granite cambered copings. A gateway is situated in the left-hand wall near the front corner, and the wall rises gently towards the house. It contains a gate of hooped wrought iron. The farmhouse is notable for its granite ashlar construction, which is attractive from all viewpoints.
