Description

MADRON SW 43 SW 6/80 Engine house at SW 442347, Ding - Dong Mine GV II Beam engine house. Circa mid-late C19. Dressed granite bob wall, otherwise granite rubble with granite dressings. Brick upper stage to chimney and round brick arches over principal doorways. Plan: rectangular engine house with clasping round chimney to the rear right hand corner. Adjoining the front (bob) wall are bearing walls for former winding machinery. Fittings, floors and roof removed. Exterior: 2 storeys over basement plinth. Tall round-headed doorway to bob wall; 2 openings to rear wall with round-headed opening to first floor; ground floor window opening in left-hand wall near the front and doorway opposite in the right hand wall. Echinus-moulded brick cornice to chimney. Part of upper stage fallen. This engine house at Ding Dong is one of the best known of Cornwall's C19 mining landmarks.
