Description

The engine house at Ding Dong Mine, located at SW 442347, is a Grade II listed beam engine house dating from the mid to late 19th century. It features a dressed granite bob wall, with the rest of the structure made from granite rubble and granite dressings. The chimney has a brick upper stage and round brick arches above the main doorways. The building has a rectangular shape with a round chimney positioned at the rear right corner. The front bob wall is supported by bearing walls that once held winding machinery, although the fittings, floors, and roof have been removed.

The exterior consists of two storeys above a basement plinth. There is a tall round-headed doorway in the bob wall, along with two openings in the rear wall, including a round-headed opening on the first floor. A ground floor window is located in the left-hand wall near the front, with a doorway opposite in the right-hand wall. The chimney features an echinus-moulded brick cornice, although part of the upper stage has fallen. This engine house is recognized as one of the most notable mining landmarks from the 19th century in Cornwall.
