Description
Trevaylor House is a country house dating from the 18th century, built on the site of an older house. It was extended in the 19th century and further remodelled around 1910. The building is constructed of coursed granite rubble with granite dressings and features hipped scantle slate roofs with wide eaves. The chimneys are stuccoed and positioned axially and laterally, while cast-iron ogee gutters are present.
The plan of the house is U-shaped at the front and double depth in the main range. The central part of the main range is likely from the 18th century and has a 2:1:2 bay front, which was remodelled around 1910. The exterior has two storeys, with some areas having a cellar and attic rooms. The south-east front has an overall 1:5:1 window arrangement. The original 18th-century symmetrical front features five windows, with a central bay that is slightly forward, flanked by later wings that project at either side, and an additional bay at the far right. The original doorway has been converted into a window at the centre of the 18th-century front.
The left-hand wing, dating from around 1910, includes tripartite sashes with mullions, while the right-hand wing features an oriel sash on the first floor and a tripartite sash below, both from circa 1910. The windows are hornless sashes with glazing bars.
Inside, most features are from around 1910, including panelling and ceiling cornices designed in the 18th-century style, some of which include modillions. The grounds of Trevaylor were designed by Price of Trengwainton.
