Description

The kitchen garden walls with gate piers, located about 30 metres south west of Lanherne Carmelite Convent, date from the early 18th century. The walls are constructed of slatestone rubble, featuring an inner facing of brick, with each course alternating between headers and stretchers. The gate piers are made of dressed greenstone and topped with limestone capitals. The garden has a roughly rectangular shape, enclosing about one acre, with the gate piers positioned at the north east side. The walls rise to about 4 metres in height and include a single gateway with a wooden door on the south west side. The gate piers stand approximately 3 metres tall, have a square plan, and are adorned with a limestone cornice and acorn finials. The gateway is currently blocked with brick. Additionally, there is a tunnel that connects the Lanherne Carmelite Convent to the kitchen garden, passing under the road for direct access.
