Description

PILLATON SX 46 SW 6/190 Kitchen garden walls about 50 metres south west of Garden Cottage GV II Kitchen garden walls at Pentillie Castle (q.v.). Probably early C19. Slatestone rubble and brick. The walls enclose a parallelogram area, with internal cross wall running from east to west, to give additional south-facing wall-face. The walls are about 4 metres high. The outer sides of the walls are in slatestone rubble, with brick coping and brick pilasters at intervals. Main gateway to east, with 2 west doorway and one to north. Inside the garden, the walls are faced in brick, with pilasters; bricks laid in alternate courses of headers and stretchers. The cross walls are stopped, with greenhouses attached to south and single storey gardener's shed in rubble attached to north.
