Description
The kitchen garden walls located about 50 metres south west of Garden Cottage are likely from the early 19th century. Constructed from slatestone rubble and brick, these walls enclose a parallelogram-shaped area and feature an internal cross wall that runs from east to west, providing an additional south-facing wall. The walls stand approximately 4 metres high, with the outer sides made of slatestone rubble, topped with brick coping and interrupted by brick pilasters at intervals. There is a main gateway on the east side, along with two doorways on the west and one on the north. Inside the garden, the walls are faced with brick and include pilasters, with the bricks arranged in alternating courses of headers and stretchers. The cross walls are stopped, and there are greenhouses attached to the south and a single-storey gardener's shed made of rubble attached to the north.
