Description

The potting shed, located approximately 100 meters north and east of Killiow House, dates from the mid to late 19th century. It is constructed from Killas rubble and features three reused granite Doric columns that support the open south side. The roof is made of scantle slate, designed as a monopitch, with an additional roof over a lean-to at the rear. The building has a rectangular four-bay plan and is single storey. The south front is simple, with short sections of rubble walling on either side and an open central area supported by the three granite columns, which are unfluted. These columns may have originally had bases and could have been part of a 17th-century Tuscan colonnade from an earlier phase of Killiow House. A further reused colonnade that once supported the front of a cartshed in the farmyard has only one column remaining in position. Inside, the potting shed has a cobbled floor and retains its original roof structure. This building has group value with other listed buildings at Killiow House.
