Description

Church Cottage is a circa 1849 school house, now a private house. It is constructed of shale rubble walls with granite quoins, jambstones, mullions, lintels, and arch stones. The roof is steeply pitched, covered in Delabole slate, with wide eaves and verges to the north and south gable ends, and a roof dormer to the east featuring shaped barge boards. A stone external stack is located towards the south end of the east wall. The building follows a two-room plan with a central vestibule and stair. The architectural style is Late Gothic. It is two storeys high, with first-floor rooms largely within the roof space.

The east-facing entrance front has a pointed, chamfered doorway in the middle, with an original ledged and braced door and strap hinges. A chimney is positioned to the left, featuring steep granite weatherings. A three-light, chamfered, flat-headed mullioned window is to the right, with a relieving arch. A similar window is located in the roof dormer above. Similar ground and first-floor windows are present on the south gable end. A small 20th-century extension has been added to the rear. The interior has not been inspected.
