Philleigh Post Office And Adjoining House

Philleigh Post Office and the adjoining house date from the 18th and 19th centuries. They are constructed from painted slatestone rubble and cob, topped with a grouted scantle slate roof featuring a rendered brick chimney on the half-hipped side wall to the left and a party gable end to the right. The building has a two-room, central stair plan, with a small single-storey post office wing at the front left. It stands two storeys high and has a nearly symmetrical north front with three windows. The nearly central doorway features a four-panel door and a small slated hood above it. There is a 16-pane, hornless sash window above the door, while the other windows are 24-pane, three-light casements that may be original. Wooden lintels support the windows. A small six-pane casement was inserted in the 20th century between the left ground floor window and the door, and there is a four-pane fixed light in a wide opening on the gable end of the post office to the left. The interior has not been inspected. This building is included for its group value.
