Description

Sophies and Penda is a house and adjoining cottage from the 18th century, which was extended in the 20th century. The building features slatestone rubble and cob walls that are partly painted, topped with thatched roofs that have gable ends. There is one axial and two gable brick chimneys. The house has a central stair plan with two rooms, while the cottage has a one-room plan and a rear wing with a lower eaves line, as well as a single-storey extension to the right. The structure is otherwise two storeys tall.

The house, located on the left, has a symmetrical three-window front facing the road, with a central doorway that features a 20th-century door. The ground floor has 19th-century two-light casements with eight-paned lights, while the first floor has six-paned lights, all supported by wooden lintels. The cottage on the right has a one-window front, with 20th-century windows on the ground floor to the left, where there was formerly a doorway, and to the right. Above, there is a 12-pane, two-light casement window. Inside the house, there is an open beam ceiling and the original roof structure, though only the feet of the trusses are visible.
