Description
This building at 2 South Street consists of a pair of houses, roughcast and topped with a single slate roof. The left side houses the Post Office, which is three stories tall, while the house on the right is two stories. There are three roughcast chimney stacks. The Post Office features a three-window range, two small square attic windows, three small nine-pane casements on the first floor, and two earlier 19th-century fixed large sixteen-pane shop windows on the ground floor, along with a centrally located part-glazed door. The windows have slate sills, except for the attic windows and the left shop window. The house on the right has a three-window range, with three horned four-pane sash windows on the first floor and one on the ground floor to the right. The ground floor left has a plate glass two-pane window and a centrally located half-glazed four-panel door, all with slate sills. There is a loft window on the west end and a rear southwest wing. Inside the Post Office, there is a single ground floor room with bead-moulded joists. The adjoining house features a late 19th-century cast-iron fireplace at the ground floor east end.
