Description
The walled garden located to the east of Dale Church features rubble stone walls on the north, east, and west sides, with the northern wall being the tallest as it backs onto the road. This wall was raised in the early 20th century to accommodate a lean-to greenhouse. At the northeast corner, there is an arched gateway that, although altered, may date back to the mid-18th century. The gateway is roughcast with red brick and ashlar dressings. It has a top broken pediment typical of the early to mid-18th century, featuring a small ashlar pedestal in the curved center break. The base of the pediment is made of moulded red brick, likely original, while the sides are plain red brick, which may have been replaced. The large arched doorway includes 20th-century ledged doors, a brick arch, and ashlar keystone and impost bands. The plinth is roughcast. Inside the garden, there is a lean-to greenhouse on the north wall and an altered gabled building at the southwest corner.
