Description

The Attached Sorting Office is a 2-storey building with an attic, constructed from coursed and squared stone and topped with a slate roof. It features a 3-window range with full-height canted bay windows on either side of the main entrance. The right-hand bay was renewed, likely in 1936, while the left-hand bay is obscured by a single-storey extension that serves as the main frontage of the post office, also dated 1936. The first floor has 12-pane sash windows with flat arched voussoir heads, and there is a 12-pane sash window above the entrance. The roof has three wide gabled dormers that appear to be reconstructions, possibly enlarging earlier windows.

To the left, the single-storey post office extension has three bays defined by pilasters, with paired doors featuring metal glazed overlights on the right and large multi-paned windows on the left. It has a moulded cornice and a blocking course. There is a similar side door in the porch of the sorting office range, which forms the rear wing on the right side and includes clerestory glazing.

The ground floor underwent extensive remodelling when converted to a post office, with ceiling beams supported by brackets dating from 1936. One room retains some 18th-century fittings, including a moulded plaster cornice and a panelled spine beam.
