Description

Creek Cottage, built around the mid-19th century, is a cottage located at Porth Navas. It is constructed from local shale rubble with granite dressings and features a grouted scantle slate roof with gabled ends and red clay ridge tiles. The cottage has small red brick chimney stacks at the gable ends.

The original layout likely included two main front rooms, an entrance lobby, a straight staircase, and shallow service rooms at the back. The exterior is two storeys high with a symmetrical front that has two windows. It features original twelve-pane sash windows with granite lintels and slate sills. The central doorway also has a granite lintel and includes a small rectangular overlight above a 19th-century six-panel door, with the top panels having round heads. At the rear, there is a very small 19th-century six-pane sash window on the left side, and a small 20th-century single-storey outshut.

The property includes a low stone rubble front garden wall and gate-piers. The gate-piers are small granite monoliths with rounded tops, and the wrought iron gate is from the 20th century.

Although the interior was not inspected, the cottage is situated at the head of the creek in Porth Navas and contributes significantly to the charm of this attractive village.
